Liposuction

Indication
Many women and also men have persistent fat deposits that dont respond to traditional weight-loss diets or exercises. Fat deposits may be located anywhere on the body, however, mostly directly underneath the skin on the upper arms, in the face and neck area, the hips, the buttocks and abdomen or in the thigh area (so-called saddle bag deformities). Depending on their size, these fat deposits can be removed with liposuction. However, the elasticity of the skin and thus its ability to recover should be assessed first. Dr. Döbler will counsel you accordingly, and, if required, also inform you of other therapy methods.

Course of the procedure
The following is to give you a basic idea of the surgical procedure:
The procedure will in some cases be performed under local sedation, most of the time, however, liposuction is performed under general anesthesia. After disinfection of the operative site, small skin incisions will be made at anatomically convenient areas. Initially, a small cannula is inserted through which a special solution is injected; the solution mixture will dissolve the fat cells and thus guarantee a gentler suction. The cannula which is attached to a vacuum pump is then pushed and pulled drawing fat cells out of the body by suction. Finally, the skin incisions are closed with sutures and covered with band-aids. While still on the operating table, compression pants will be applied, which must be worn consistently for approx. 4-6 weeks.

Prior to the surgery an anesthesia workup is required. During this workup, patients will inform the anesthesiologist of all previous illnesses they have had and of all medication they may have to take.

Surgical time
The surgical time will depend on the size and number of the fat pads to be removed, which are to be removed.

Hospital stay
The length of the outpatient or inpatient stay will thus also depend on those factors.

Instructions on postoperative behavior
The compression pants must be worn consistently. This will significantly contribute to the healing process and thus a good final result.

You should avoid strenuous activities during the first four weeks. When you will be able to return to work will depend on the surgery required and your occupation.
