Breast Augmentation

Indication
Often, women are unhappy with their small breasts, which are most of the time a genetic disposition. Malformations, such as asymmetrical breasts, can also cause significant psychological disorders. Which method of breast augmentation will be used will be decided on an individual basis and will essentially depend on the anatomical conditions.

Course of the procedure
There are various surgical methods. Regardless of the entry point, the objective of any surgery is to preform a space anterior or posterior to the breast muscle into which the breast implant will be placed.

The area will be entered via an approx. 4 cm long skin incision, either in the anterior area of the axillary cavity or an arch-shaped incision at the lower margin of the areola or in the lower breast fold. The latter is preferred most of the time since the implant can be placed exactly under visualization. Form and size of the breast implants will be selected with the patient based on the individual anatomical conditions; aesthetic proportion, however, should always be the crucial factor.  Most of the time, silicone is chosen as cohesive-gel filling; saline-filled implants, however, can also be a good alternative.

Prior to the surgery an anesthesia workup is required. During this workup, patients will inform the anesthesiologist of all previous illnesses they have had and of all medication they may have to take.

Surgical time
The surgery normally takes 60 to 90 minutes.

Hospital stay
An inpatient stay of one night is recommended in addition to the outpatient treatment if the patient resides more than 50 km away from the clinic.

Instructions on postoperative behavior
While still on the operating table, a custom-fitted brassier will be applied, which is selected prior to the procedure. It must be worn at all times and may only be changed if instructed to do so. Postoperative care will be provided for approx. 3 weeks until suture removal. We recommend selecting clothes with buttons or zips during this time since the arms should not be lifted above shoulder height so as to cause as little traction to the wound and fresh scars as possible.

Every patient will be given a quality assurance (CE card) card for the product and an implant pass which shows detailed implant data.

When patients will be able to return to work/perform sports will depend on the healing process and the type of the patients occupation. Usually it will take only a few days.
